My personal brief and non scientific blueprint for longevity...

1. eat a lot of water based foods like fruits and vegetables that were recently alive

2. Keep the dairy intake low

3. Get regular exercise making sure to get your heart rate going at least 2-3 times per week

4. Stay away from sodas and things with high sugar content

5. 1 capful of a food-based liquid multivitamin every day. (I swear by this stuff)

Then the typical stuff like drinking water and watching the saturated fats.

My breakfast every morning is a smoothie consisting of the following:

1. Blueberries (frozen)
2. Strawberries or raspberries or mixed fruit (frozen)
3. Half a banana (I eat the other half)
4. Whey Protein (adds a nice vanilla kick to it)
5. Liquid Multivitamin (the secret sauce that makes this thing work!)
6. Diet Cranberry juice (keep those sugars low!)
7. Almond Milk (kicks regular milks ass!)

Viola! A dairy free, low sugar smoothie that is loaded with everything I need.

3ds

Tomorrow I will take part in a very unique program at the University of Texas called 3 Day Start Up.

Over the course of the weekend myself and a group of people will split up and conceive, create and then pitch a business idea to an investor... all within the span of 72 hours.

My buddy who has attended the program and is now an organizer actually got me in with his recommendation so I am a bit of a wildcard. I am excited to take part in this and he tells me its going to be eye opening and intense.

The group consists of MBA students, coders, previous graduates, wildcards like myself and others. It seems the ideas weigh heavily to smartphone applications but I'm sure there will be all kinds of ideas thrown around. Basically I will pick the idea that resonates with me, get in their group and bang out something in 72 hours that an investor might be interested in funding. I have a unique skillset that I think will benefit my group.

So this weekend will be light on sleep and comfort zone stretching. If an idea takes then the people involved get a piece of ownership which is exciting

I look at it as a win/win because I will meet a bunch of future business owners that could use my services one day anyway so I'm pretty sure these connections will work out for me on some level

telltale signs

as far as my health goes I feel pretty great. I can bang out a quarter mile on the treadmill at speed 10 without too much gasping and panting, I am noticing distinctive changes in my muscle tone, gaining weight because of it, I'm rarely sick etc.

But damn if I don't see some thinning hair at my widows peak area. A tiny nearly imperceptible nudge letting me know that yes I am aging. My body is going to continue its change as my cells age. I've already seen the beginnings of some serious crows feet on the way as well.

Goodbye Spring Chicken phase. Hello distinguished mid thirty something.

Looking forward to that prostate exam.

its been nearly a year since we played a show. How in the hell did that happen?

The album is heading to be mastered soon. Its been poured over and blown apart. Dissected. Skinned alive. Rebuilt via computers. I have little emotion for it at this point but I need to find it again.

To quote Mitch Hedberg...

"I don't have a girlfriend I just know someone who would get really mad if she heard me say that"

PanamAwesome

ha! Nice title.

Okay guess I should post before I start forgetting things.

The trip was killer. The 2 smartest things we did were to rent a car and buy a cheap cell phone with prepaid minutes.

I snorkeled around reefs with colorful fish, hiked a bit, gambled, conversed with locals, watched boats pass through the Panama Canal, took trips across the country (2 hours and you are on the other side), saw crystal clear water, white sand beaches, white mixed with black sand beaches, stayed at the penthouse of a building in downtown Panama, ate Amazing food, saw a bar full of prostitutes (literally 100% of the women were prostitutes), took boats to islands, experienced the worst traffic I have ever seen in my entire life, ran into weird cab drivers, visited a 4 story mansion directly on the beach, stayed at a hostel tucked away in the jungle of an oceanside town (owned by a guy who gave up the corporate life, sailed around the world and finally stopped in Panama), Got lost in barrios that make East Austin look like Beverly Hills, did I mention the traffic? Seriously Lawless traffic... the whole town is full of madmen drivers.

My client was beyond hospitable. He owns 4 floors of a building downtown so they had plenty of room for us. His wife cooked for us and was super sweet also. They took us to meet their friends who were from Austin who sold everything and moved to the beach.

Im forgetting a lot of things but as I recall interesting experiences I will post them here. I took a lot of videos so hopefully posting them wont be difficult.

I return with a fresh perspective on things. I am driven to flesh out my career and start taking it seriously. I want to take more trips, meet more cool people and have more fun. The cool part is I am happy to be back in Austin and start being productive.

SX

its that time of year again. SXSW is here.

I am not going to be present for the music part with my trip to Panama but I did get to attend one of the SXSW Interactive parties last night which is basically the week before the music starts.

This week is for the tech industry so basically every tech guru descends on Austin for parties, networking etc. I was at a party yesterday with my friend who is in a start up company creating a smartphone app, and a balding, nerdy older man comes into their room to see about their product. Everyone perked up and started pitching him on their idea. Suddenly a dude comes in with a big pro camera and starts snapping photos of the conversation.

Of course I have no clue whats going on but I deduced that the goofy mathematician was someone of importance.

Turns out he is the guy responsible for the new iphone's artificial intelligence called Siri. His company basically created Siri and Apple snatched it up. When Steve Jobs was alive, he was one of the guys Jobs would pick up the phone to talk to. Big deal in the tech world. Apparently he creates and or buys awesome companies and sells them.

My friend's business partners were describing the product and my ballsy friend spoke up and said "you know this is going to sound crass but we are taking peoples emails to let them know when we roll this out... can we get yours"

He said sure and I wanted to start clapping for him. I'm sure everyone in that room was pretty stoked my buddy sacked up like that.

At one point of the night I gave my card to a guy and my buddy let me know that it was another big tech guy and that I made a good impression on him. I was glad he told me after the fact or I would have probably screwed that up.

That was my only experience with SXSW Interactive. But this city is alive with very very successful tech people this week. It keeps reminding me Im sitting on a great skillset and not doing enough to capitalize on it.

In other news... the cat has a new home. For now. Lets hope its going well. The funny part is the dude lives right across the street from me and I didnt know it. I walked over to his place and hung out with the cat while he went to the store to buy it litter and food. The trip to the new place took 30 seconds so not as traumatic as a long car ride in a tiny crate.

Last I heard he was tormenting her with a feather boa and she was loving it. Fingers crossed she doesn't get annoying to him.

But I feel free. No more worrying about getting home to feed the cat. No more ripped blinds, puke puddles, shit covered kitty litter and the rest.

cat troubles

so the gal ive been hanging with is helping me find this cat a home.

Currently she is staying with a friend of hers (cool cat-loving guy) who has another cat but mine does NOT get along with the other cat. So now its a mad dash to find a home for her before I go on this trip.

Even though this has nothing to do with me, I still feel guilty as if her actions and the fact that she is a difficult cat is somehow my fault. I feel pretty bad for her and hope this works out.

10 Days To Panama

We are getting Hostel reservations taken care of. I got my passport (i look like a murderous villain). I hope the adventures that await us have nothing to do with death, robbery or diarrhea.

The flight was only 380 bucks or so which is pretty amazing for a round trip ticket to another country. Hopefully the savings will continue and our dollar will stretch much further in Panama.

I bought some running shoes today. I was running on a treadmill with converse and realized that wasn't going to work. So now I'm legit and there is a noticeable difference in feel. Springy, lightweight and very breathable. I broke out a quarter mile in 2 minutes or so. Treadmill cranked to speed 10.

As far as weight training im benching 3 sets of 8 @ about 150 pounds. I predict in the next few months I will be benching my own body weight which is a fun goal of mine. Id been slacking and it was showing but Im back on track.

Tonight is one of our last mixing sessions. Hopefully we knock it all out tonight. I know Ive been saying this awhile but we are nearly done.

Sad about the cat but Im determined to find her a new home before Panama. No more carpet cleaning, annoying meows in the morning and destruction. The cat is a little crazy and I had been trying to be a good owner but I discovered that I am just not a cat person. Seeing piss prints across my kitchen floor sealed the deal for me. Shes gotta go.
